We are excited to announce Portland textileX Month 2023, that will explore the important topic of Mixed Identities.
Belonging neither here nor there, identifying as another, where are all the others? Between bodies, borders, histories, cultures, and languages how does our sense of identity influence our techniques, practices, cultures, places, and communities? Textiles, a universal aspect of every culture and an embedded reflection of the communities from which they originate, including their histories, fibers, myths, rituals, and politics, undergo transformative changes as communities and individuals migrate, resist, oppress, reconstitute, and adapt, leading to the metamorphosis of both their textiles and identities.
Please join us again this October in highlighting diverse perspectives and fluid identities across a myriad of cultures and generations, sharing your projects, knowledge, experiences, perspectives, and practices. Powered by inclusive, grassroots organizing among the vibrant and diverse Portland textile community and beyond, we look forward to having your participation again for PTXM 2023!
Submissions are now open through www.textilex.org and will close at 11:59 pm on August 18th.
