About the Artists:
Gestural strokes and spontaneous marks collide with color blocks in Robert Koch’s narrative vignettes. Often prompted by found photographs, Robert takes the liberty to make his subjects humans or creatures inhabiting the same world. Having the appearance of quickness and even naiveté, Robert’s deft drawing skills mean that each mark is playful and intentional at the same time. By using found photographs as a jumping off point, he allows the imagery to stray from the original. People can turn into animals, fantasy overtakes fact, and new stories unfold.
P. Dews received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1984. Along the way, her studies included architecture, letterpress printing, graphic design, and limestone sculpture in Lacoste, France. P. Dews produces ceramic sculptures, fusing a love of gardening with large scale sculptures, from realistic to personified. They exude peaceful and playful expressions with a touch of fantastical. Delightfully oversized seed pods, vegetables, and fruits create intrigue in the home or along the garden path. Glaze finishes can be colorfully saturated as a result of gas or electric firing, or have the earthen appearance of an Anagama wood firing. A fifth generation Oregonian, P. Dews has been teaching sculpture alongside her studio practice in the Rogue Valley since 1995.
