Opening Reception: Saturday, March 2nd, 12p-3p
Hours: Fridays: 10am-2pm or by appointment
Marking a shift from abstraction to representational depiction, Donyel Ivy-Royal’s new paintings selected for Ceremony function as daily documentation, and spaces for (and of) reflection. They are visual accounts of the poetry within random, mundane, and overlooked moments - holding them as sacred
Ceremony is a reference to the personal process of creating, and a celebration of the rituals involved - from the act of painting to sharing one’s work with others. While keeping in mind ideas of voyeurism, memory and stillness, Ivy-Royal looks to bridge gaps between the personal and impersonal parts of life.
In companionship with Ceremony, Hide & Seek is excited for the release of “Yoke”, a publication of 68 new photographs by Donyel Ivy-Royal and Maya Imani Howard-Watts. Produced by Container Corps, copies will be available for sale at the opening and through the gallery.
