Opening Reception: Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 on 5-8 pm
Myths resonate across time, metamorphosing, dancing between continuity and change. As James Cahill aptly states, myths can compress past and present. This exhibit takes a ghostly thread that leads deep into the past only to circle back around to an optimistic future ancient story of an imaginal entity made of stone, animal, and plant.
Meteorite Mama 2024 is an installation by Jesse Rose Vala, a stage where a stoneware and neon effigy sits amidst illuminated glass pomegranates, strange creatures, and renderings of stone and flesh. Surrounding these elements are sound and video, illustrating narratives of an ancient past while hinting at future ways of being–a retelling championing hybridity and connectivity.
