Statement:
A cheerful heart is a good medicine;
But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
—old proverb
Humor serves a social function in many ways.
We may laugh at ourselves, at others, at situations, at objects, at memories. Humor can get us out of (or into) embarrassing situations, help solve social and political conflicts, release stress and heal hearts and bodies.
Humorous works have the capacity to challenge the conventional and give a different-than-usual point of view, dispel myths, and shatter accepted perceptions. Subversive messages can find a sympathetic ear, protected in a tone of laughter, by presenting reality in a humorous way.
Whether we enjoy slapstick or irony, parody or satire, absurd or dark, we want to laugh!
Knock knock, who’s there?...
