after / time, artist Misha Davydov, and curator Häsler Gómez are thrilled to announce the solo exhibition Sooner or Later. Join us for an in-person opening reception on Friday, June 3, 6–9PM.
Misha Davydov’s practice lives in a state of shifting perceptions, from the real to the imagined to the in-between—to the in-between of an in-between; yet it never really points to a “real,” in fact it compounds any notions we may have of what is real. So often when photographers shift the materiality of their work from the frame, there is an inevitable flattening that occurs beyond the literal flat photograph. However, in Davydov’s work, the image and the materials it inhabits coalesce to create objects that beg us to look closer, to wonder how they literally work or why it is that they work. In developing Sooner or Later we brought together works that were emblematic of Davydov’s practice thus far, while also challenging how the images could respond to new materialities and methods of display. Questions central to the gestures found throughout Sooner or Later were: what does it mean to exhibit outside the typical white box gallery, can a photograph be an object or has it always been one, and how does work evolve and change? Sooner or Later is organized by Häsler Gómez in collaboration with Misha Davydov and after / time collective with production assistance provided by Todd Molinari. after / time 707 NE Broadway UNIT 205 Portland, OR 97232 Gallery Hours: Sundays 1–4PM and by appointment
