March 8 - April 10, 2019
Opening reception and performance March 8 from 7-10 PM
1976 is an exhibit of new oil paintings by Portland artist, Shawn Demarest. Begun on the Fourth of July last year, her work explores living in present day America. Working intuitively, Demarest integrates flowers, weeds, and tomato plants growing in her yard with Portland street scenes, stars, and stripes. Demarest writes: There are two frequent themes: The desire to own, shape and evolve the meaning of being American, and secondly, expressing what it feels like to be living in this time of internet, cars, mass media, and backyard gardens.
