PTXM: Textile Hive Artist in Residence, Aradhita Parasrampuriaa

  • Textile Hive 133 Southwest 2nd Avenue, Suite 203 Portland, OR, 97204 United States (map)

Aradhita Parasrampuria is a sustainable materials researcher and textile designer, originally from India, based in New York. She’s also the 2023 Textile Hive Artist in Residence! In this workshop, participants will dive into the vibrant world of algae pigments and learn to incorporate them into artwork using silkscreen printing techniques. The prints in this session are inspired by an "alien" theme, a nod to instructors Aradhita and Lucas' shared identity as "aliens" in the U.S. and the unique, often misunderstood nature of algae and biopigments. Our hands-on session will outline the rich history of color and textile dyeing, spotlighting the role of biopigments in modern contexts. We'll also touch on the scientific and societal shifts leading to today's movement against fast fashion.
