Post-Socialist Landscapes by Matthew Moore

  • Blue Sky 122 Northwest 8th Avenue Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

Blue Sky is pleased to announce the May exhibition: “Post-Socialist Landscapes” by Matthew Moore.

Exhibition opening: Saturday, May 7, 12 - 5 PM
Artist Talk: Saturday, May 7, 1 PM at Blue Sky

What happens to the spaces once occupied by the statues of “Idols” of the former Soviet Union and what becomes of the statues themselves? Matthew Moore photographs these remnants of the past — and the resulting impact on contemporary rural and urban places in “Post-Socialist Landscapes”. This exhibition, coming to Blue Sky in May 2022, seems particularly consequential as we bear witness to the horrors of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the ever-present ghosts of history.

Matthew Moore is an explorer of places, both real and imagined. His photographic process blends research and cartography to create bodies of work that investigate the way history and collective memory is influenced through interventions in the landscape.
