Nick’s 3rd solo show at lowell dances between ancient & future narratives, exploring the boundaries of time, imagination, & material. several pieces were finished in a wood/soda Catenary Arch kiln firing at East Creek studios in Willimina, OR. this technique dates back to the 13th century, with a laborious three-day firing process at temperatures over 2000 degrees which produce beautiful ash glazes; these new pieces shine in rich hues of brown, pink, gray, & copper on magical forms.
in addition to soda fired pieces, Mud Slug Bug includes many works using standard firing methods with more painterly & pictorial glazes. the resulting show invites us to step into Nick’s fantasy world of clay, where unexpected forms continue to playfully push limits & set our imaginations in motion.
