Jeannine Shinoda, Towards Space + Wonder

  • Agenda 4505 Southeast Belmont Street Portland, OR, 97215 United States (map)

Mutual trust between artist, curator, and an innovative spirit brings the latest iteration of the conversation of contemporary art to SE Portland in the form of Jeannine Shinoda’s show based on the exploratory process to create an artistic expression. Combining rigor, gesture, and levity, she will be creating an experience that acknowledges and then extends beyond the walls of the gallery. With the show, ‘Towards Space + Wonder’, Shinoda examines the process of charting her own compass and marking where it leads her.

In Shinoda’s words: “I'm approaching the process of this show in a very different way than my past work has been a very concept and product-oriented. (i.e. - the architectural process of visualizing and working backward to create the steps towards actualization). I'm using the show at Agenda as an opportunity to delve into my creative process using my curiosity as a guide towards something unknown. My hope is that I can share a bit of the experience of the process itself to the viewer via what I create for the show. It's a daily practice towards trust, compassion, joy, and curiosity.”

Jeannine Shinoda is an artist, architect, and chef based out of Portland, OR. She is the owner/the proprietor of Omakase-Ya, a food project that is inspired by moments of delight, her mixed Asian heritage, food memories, foraging, and travel. In recent work, she has connected with her audience via food as a gustatory experience, image, and metaphor.
