Gallery Go Go presents the work of Jailbreak Collective. Open now through September 30 every day in Pioneer Place from 11am-7pm. Opening celebration is on Saturday September 18, from 11am to 8pm. The opening will feature a tarot reader and crafts presented by SCRAP creative reuse center.
Jailbreak Collective members are artists from historically underrepresented communities with dedicated practices and stories to tell. They are committed to growing through community, resource sharing, and hard work. In addition to commitment to creativity and expression, each artist is individually committed to social justice and contributing to the betterment of our community.
JAILBREAK is an art studio, gallery, resource center, and storefront showcasing new work created by local Black and Indigenous people of color, LGBTQIA+, and female emerging artists. Our brick & mortar is built on land stolen from the Chinook, Cowlitz, and Clackamas Tribes.
JAILBREAK is the transformation of Jailhouse Studios, a female-run creative workspace since 2011, named after the history of the building. In the early 1900's, the building was erected for the Southeast Portland Police department to stable their horses.
Today, our mission is to grow our platform for underrepresented emerging artists and Portlanders who want to maintain and grow the culture of our city. We have created a resource center and classroom connected to a storefront and gallery that provides technical and educational growth resources, bringing together a network of creatives, and offering visibility and autonomy for local artists as part of this mission. JAILBREAK opens a new dialogue for the whole community to participate in maintaining and growing our art scene through elevating the stories of historically underrepresented communities and inviting you all to support them, and their stories though patronage.
