Old Pal Artist Series presents:
Emma van Halsema
VIGNETTES
On view April 5 - May 29, 2023
Opening Reception Thursday, April 6, 6-8 pm
Hours: Wednesday to Monday, 5pm to 10pm. Closed Tuesday.
About the Artist:
Emma is a Portland based artist whose work tends to lean towards her sense of nostalgia and whimsy, oftentimes with a bit of a southern twist. She primarily works with ink and gouache. Every now and then something sculptural creeps into the mix. Emma is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a major in Production Design where her mascot, believe it or not, was a pickle. She has worked in film and stop motion animation over the last 10 years and has an infinity for old structures and objects.
VIGNETTES showcases a variety of moments that, at one time or another, have brought a sense of pause to a day. Noticing the way the light catches something “just right” or the way an old sign stands alone in a parking lot. These scenes are ones that bring wonder to the mundane, no matter how small they may seem.
