COUNTERPOINT presents the contrasting but complementary visions of two Portland artists: Fretta Cravens and Liz Dexter.
Through carefully composed images, Fretta employs photography to elevate the experience of viewing a flower. Using details to express texture and color to enhance the shapes within each flower, Fretta’s compositions are compelling statements of graphic simplicity.
Liz achieves visual harmony in her paintings through layers of images, pigment, paper, paint and glazing. She manipulates complex details through a unique process of adding and subtracting portions of each layer, resulting in compositions of structural harmony that resonate with texture and color.
The resulting exhibition illustrates how two skilled artists with a similar appreciation for detail achieve such individually striking but complementary results.
