Ash Street Project is excited to announce "tastes of time, all the time, better yet, altogether", an exhibition of new work by Ben Skiba.
Skiba has been working consistently with ceramic, paint, and tape among other media to explore the connections between materials and the figure. He commonly utilizes accumulation and intuitive assemblage to help guide his sculptural work. Often binding disparate materials together, objects are lead to an embrace that delicately shifts between one of comfort and tension.
In search of a new studio tempo, Skiba turned more intensely towards painting on canvas over the last year, a process which prioritized contemplation. As introspection swiftly turned to doubt, desperation became his friend as he began cutting apart old and tired paintings. This new work combines the slowing process of painting with the urgent tendencies of Skiba’s sculptural approach.
