Fourteen30 Contemporary is pleased to present Lost in Thoughts, an exhibition of new paintings by Vienna-based artist Anna Schachinger. The show will open Friday, April 27, 2018, with a reception 5-7pm, and will run through June 15, 2018. The exhibition opening marks an end to Schachinger’s Portland residency with Fourteen30 Contemporary, in collaboration with Ash Street Project. Anna Schachinger’s active, brightly colored paintings are expressly undefinable, these works—some large, some small—are like thoughts. The larger works are energetically layered: as color and form build upon each other, each layer is a new suggestion, a new concept, a new argument. Each of these larger paintings is like a convoluted internal debate, ultimately expansive and inclusive, gesturing toward a network of connected ideas rather than a single conclusion. Much of the smaller works in this exhibition act as brief, bright moments of clarity. The clear lines and bursts of color hold together, their simplicity illustrating the rare delight of when a focused and fully formed idea pops into one’s head out of nowhere. Anna Schachinger (b. 1990) is a painter based in Vienna, Austria. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She has an upcoming solo exhibition at Brennan and Griffin, New York (May 2018). Past solo presentations of her work include alles at lulu, Mexico City (2017) and white crocodile at fAN Kunstverein, Vienna (2016). Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at Reyes Projects, Birmingham; KS Room, Kornberg; husslehof, Frankfurt; Transition Gallery, London and Sullivan Galleries, Chicago.
