Everything you need to know about the Portland art scene this June
|
The LatestPortland’s art scene is in “full bloom,” so to speak—alive with texture and movement. There is an energy out there! That includes uncompromising viewpoints articulated through paint or installation-based abstract work that boldly takes up walls; sculptures that feel unearthed rather than made; and photography that recognizes landscape is not just scenery but an active, shifting force. This month’s exhibitions and lectures bring fresh energy, with artists and thinkers digging into questions of place and material. Our collaboration with the Portland Art Dealers’ Association continues; there is a lot of overlap between our members’ and their exhibitions and Portland’s creative pulse. The House of Art and Craft continues to offer a wide range of affordable and incredibly cool workshops, including hat embellishment, jewelry, and an open studio sale this Sunday, June 7, from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. The Hallie Ford Fellows in the Visual Arts for this year were just announced! Congratulations to Katherine Aungier, Ralph Pugay, and Diego Morales-Portillo. Now go on; wander, linger with an artwork, change your vantage point, look a little closer or back up, and delve into our city’s vibrant art scene.
