Emily Somoskey and James Houghton share a thread of materiality and deceptive spontaneity. Their work turns the worlds of painting and ceramic form on their heads with highly crafted twists on realities. Structures appear to be simultaneously coming together and pulling apart. Finding function and footing requires the viewer to draw from their own imagination. The work is in the play and the play is in the work.
