shhh soft opening at homebase

  • homebase 5829 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard Portland, OR, 97215 United States (map)

Please join homebase on Saturday, June 22nd from 5-9pm for their soft opening, featuring new work by Katelyn Nicole Kilburg.

Right off of Hawthorne blvd, homebase is part gallery, part performance venue, and part backyard. With a primary focus on rotating mural and visual art exhibitions programming, homebase also aims to be a collaborative space for both portland and non-portland based artists, and existing arts organizations.

Named for our desire to foster a familiar and welcoming environment, a “home” away from home, homebase also hopes to serve as the literal home base point for future offshoot ventures supported by the gallery.

Please join co-founder Ashley Gifford and Luiza Lukova in celebrating the opening of this new multidisciplinary art space.

“I HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ANYTHING DESPITE HOW I PRETEND TO”

Katelyn Kilburg is a multidisciplinary visual artist, combining film with graphic design elements, and often written word.

This piece is about the ways in which memories warp over time, and the changes to emotions that come from such warping. Here the flowers have meaning and stand as an offering to the humility within the act of devotion, even to that which has gone. Should you puncture one of the many balloons, you may find clues that something soft is always still close under the surface, no matter what is outwardly feigned. Undercurrents of greek lore flow through the work, serving to tell stories both very old, and stories quite new and close to the artist.
