Self Help is an exploration of the self-guided self-improvement movement that has voluntarily "gooped up" our inboxes. In the face of economic uncertainty, political unrest, and environmental duress, we have asked what place is there for the Ego and now seek new insight for a better tomorrow. We are ourselves the vehicle of this change. As artists, it is time for the "creative genius" within each of us to hang up their palette, cease their formal studies of Transcendentalism or of The Sublime, and to create local, immediate change with a global perspective. Though varied in subject and material, the works on display collectively explore the creatives' motivation to continue to produce in spite of it all and in hopes that doing so will have a lasting, meaningful and positive effect.
The Envelope is an artist-run space with a mission to create a platform for emerging contemporary artists. In between utilizing the space for our studio practice, we hold monthly exhibitions that feature artists in the region who are making significant contributions to the medium(s) of work in which they are engaging. These connections are made in hopes to build relationships between artists and community that promote and strengthen critical dialogue. This network creates an inclusive environment that generates broader discussion from a larger demographic. We believe an inclusive ideology is essential in representing the diversity of work being produced in the Pacific Northwest.
