Lake Washington, Philip Miner

  • SEASON SEATTLE, WA (map)

SEASON IS EXCITED TO PRESENT “LAKE WASHINGTON” OUR THIRD SHOW OF SEATTLE ARTIST PHILIP MINER.  LAKE WASHINGTON WILL OPEN APRIL 13 AND CONTINUE TO JUNE 30 WITH AN OPENING RECEPTION MAY 15.  SEASON IS LOCATED AT 1222 NE RAVENNA BLVD AND IS OPEN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, PLEASE CONTACT ROBERT (AT) SEASON (DOT) CZ TO ARRANGE A VISIT.

COLOR IS ALWAYS, FIRST AND FOREMOST, RELATIVE.  IN THESE PAINTINGS, COLOR MATTERS MOST.

NEARLY EVERY DAY PHILIP HAS WALKED ALONG THE LAKE WASHINGTON SHORE. AS A ROUTINE, THIS WALKING MAY BE ORDINARY, BUT IT IS WITHIN THAT REPETITION THAT HE FINDS THE SPACE TO LISTEN AND TO THINK.  HE IS A PAINTER LESS INTERESTED IN WHAT CAN BE SAID OUT LOUD, OR WHAT THEORETICAL STANCE CAN BE INSERTED THROUGH THE MAKING OF A PAINTING.  FOR HIM, PAINTING IS A PROCESS, IT IS CONTINUAL, LIKE THE STEPS TAKEN DURING A WALK. IT IS A  TIME TO LOOK AND PERCEIVE AND LOOK AGAIN.

TITLES OF PAINTINGS OFTEN COME OFF AS SUBJECTIVE OR PROBLEMATIC AS THEY BEG TO MAKE A STORY WHERE ONE ISN’T NEEDED. IT MAY SOUND OUTDATED AND OLD-FASHIONED, BUT THESE PAINTINGS ARE ABOUT PAINT. TO CALL SOME OF THEM “LAKE” SEEMS GOOD ENOUGH, IF ONLY TO REMEMBER THE PLACE.
