Barbara Kruger

March 7–31, 2019

Blue Sky is pleased to present a selection of photo-based works by renowned conceptual artist Barbara Kruger from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation. Rendered in the artist’s signature graphic style with bold text layered over found mass media images, the lithographs, silkscreen images, and digital prints on view communicate biting feminist and cultural critiques of consumerism and gender stereotypes.

Born in 1945 in Newark, New Jersey, Barbara Kruger worked as a graphic designer and art director after studying at both Syracuse University and Parsons School of Design in the 1960s. Her works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others. She currently lives and works between New York City and Los Angeles.

Barbara Kruger: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation is generously supported by The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation/Arlene Schnitzer and Jordan Schnitzer.
